Functional Art forYour Home
I've always found paper in and of itselfto be very beautiful. So years ago without having a purpose other than to admire them, I began to collect bits pieces of ephemera such as old stamps and especially vintage post cards by the dozens. The message froma traveler to a loved one was just as captivating to me as the image on the other side. Then about ten years ago a friend introduced me to the art of Decoupage. I was hooked immediately and I now have a fitting use for my collection of paper scraps.
Every item I design, with the exception of the switchplate covers, is one of a kind. I use original vintage materials when appropriate in conjunction with wrapping paper, marbled paper and just about anything that is two-dimensional. I have also started to incorporate some three-dimensionalitems onto my boxes. All my work is protected by several coats of an acrylic varnish. This creates a smooth finish characteristic of the Decoupage technique and serves as protection. The varnish will not yellow with age.
